McMillan hired as soccer assistant coach

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman soccer coach Richard Moodie announced the addition of former C-N soccer player Jason McMillan to his coaching staff as an assistant coach to both the men's and women's programs on Wednesday morning.

McMillan joins the Eagles after spending the past 12 years working at the club level in East Tennessee with the Lakeway Soccer Club and Knoxville Football Club. His most recent role was the Director of Player Performance for the Knoxville Football Club; McMillan was in charge of implementing a soccer-specific Speed, Agility and Quickness program.

"I am excited to join the coaching staff of the Carson-Newman men's and women's soccer programs. As a former player, and keeping tabs on the recent successes of the programs, I am looking to bringing more success and improve on what the programs have accomplished over the last decade," McMillan said.

The Gold Coast, Australia native was the coach of three club teams for the Knoxville Soccer Club and served as an assistant for the '99 Arsenal girls team that was a finalist for the President's Cup National Championship in July 2014; that season, '99 Arsenal won the Tennessee Division II State Championship and the President's Cup Region III Championship.

McMillan graduated from Carson-Newman in 2010 with a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science.

During his Carson-Newman career, McMillan held the previous C-N record for games played with 75 appearances in the Orange and Blue; that record was broken during the 2015 season by All-American Sindre Welo. Of his 75 appearances, the Australian started 64 contests as a center back, which is the fourth-most in the history of the program. During his senior season in 2005, he helped guide the Eagles to the program's only sweep of both the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament titles; that season, C-N an appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight before falling to Southern Illinois – Edwardsville 1-0. As a senior, McMillan was named a first-team All-SAC member. He accumulated 10 career goals.

"We are excited to have our first full-time assistant, especially to hire someone like Jason McMillan," Moodie said of his new staff member. "He is invested in the program, a lot like I am. He is a former player and was here for a lot of success from 2003-06. Already being local, it obviously helps establish and continue our network within the community and the Knoxville area as we try to continue our success. It is exciting to work with a former teammate and hopefully take the program to new levels."

McMillan is married to the former Ashley Greene, a Carson-Newman graduate, and the couple has two children with a daughter, Kadyn, and a son, Sage.
