Agnes McAmis Memorial Results

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) won her second career tournament after carding a final round even-par 72 during Tuesday's final round to finish five strokes ahead of the second-place finisher at the 19th-annual Agnes McAmis Memorial at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.

The Carson-Newman women's golf team finished the 36-hole tournament in third-place after beginning the day in fifth and trailed the tournament winners Newberry by two strokes.

"We had a much better comeback today. Elizabeth is really coming into form and had a fantastic win for her," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Taylor (Hayes) bounced back with a 78 and Kelli (Pemberton) had a few better.

"I'm disappointed to finish third and only two shots from winning. We should have with a number of careless short putts. I'm looking to sharpen up this week in practice and go to conference strong."

The sophomore shot the lone even-par round of the event on Tuesday with a 72; the even-par score was the Oakland, Tenn. native's lowest score of the year. England's victory is her first of the season and the second of her career following the Etowah Intercollegiate during her first year at Mossy Creek.

Senior Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) shot her second seven-over 79 of the tournament and finished in sixth-place. Dating back to the Lady Moc Classic, Hawkins has shot in the 70s in seven of her last eight rounds.

Freshman Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) dropped seven strokes from her Monday round to shoot a final round 78. Hayes's score of six-over was the second-best round by an Eagle on Tuesday. The freshman finished tied for 20th with a two-round total of 19-over 163.

Junior Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) shot her second straight round of 12-over 84 and finished in a tie for 39th with a combined score of 168. Senior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out the C-N team's effort with a final round 11-over 83. Pemberton tied for 43rd.

Sophomore Mikaela Thibodeau (Davie, Fla.) dropped nine strokes from her Monday round and carded her second-best round in her career with a 12-over 84. Thibodeau finished tied for 59th. Freshman Summer Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot a 19-over 91 during the final round and tied for 65th.

Newberry finished a single stroke ahead of Lincoln Memorial for the tournament win, while Carson-Newman finished two strokes behind the Wolves in third. England finished five strokes ahead of King's (Tenn.) Elizabeth Swallow and Newberry's Nabila Inak who tied for third.

The Eagles will look to defend their conference title at the South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championships at Monroe Country Club in Monroe, N.C. beginning on Sunday morning.
