Eagles take down Wolves 4-1 in dual match

MONROE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team knocked off South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry Saturday afternoon in a dual match at the Monroe Country Club by way of a 4-1 score.

The victory was the second straight win for the Eagles over the Wolves in a dual match setting after winning in the Palmetto State to open the 2015 spring season.

"We played really well. It was a great preview to conference and a confidence boost," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "The course played better than in the fall. Going into the Agnes McAmis event these next couple of days, the team should be excited after a good performance today."

Senior Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) won as the team's number one, while sophomore Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) and senior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) each registered victories as the Eagles' second and fourth players, respectively.

Freshman Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) and junior Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) each halved in their position.

C-N will return to the Volunteer State for the 36-hole Agnis McAmis Memorial hosted by Tusculum on Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.
