Lady Eagles top Catawba for first SAC win, 6-3; Fall to Wingate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles won four singles matches to add to a 2-1 doubles advantage and beat Catawba for their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon.

The match was moved from outdoors to the Knoxville Racquet Club after rain rolled into the Jefferson City area.

C-N's Tiffany Delias won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to lead the singles onslaught. Freshman Jennifer Ott picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles to help star the rally.

Sophomores Katie Brown and Stefy Stand also picked up wins in singles play. Brown won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and Stand rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4.

Junior Megan Wilson took a tiebreaker loss at No. 5 singles with the match already decided.

Wilson and Stand gave C-N a decisive 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, while Catawba retired at No. 2 doubles after C-N took a 3-1 lead.

Wingate made C-N settle for a split in its two weekend SAC matches. The Bulldogs beat the Lady Eagles, 9-0, on Sunday at the C-N Tennis Complex.

Carson-Newman travels to Williamsburg, Ky. for a non-conference match on Thursday. C-N faces the University of the Cumberlands at 2 p.m.
