Volleyball snares AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Carson-Newman volleyball earned The United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season announced by the organization on Monday.

Started for the 1992-93 academic year, the award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The Eagles are one of the 161 Division II women's volleyball programs to be distinguished for the year.

Of the 18 players on the roster, 16 recorded a GPA of at least 3.0 with five posting an average of 3.7 or better. Pilar Daugherty (Las Cruces, N.M.) led the way with a flawless 4.0 tally while Hayden Barton (Hixson, Tenn.) and Madison Rademacher (Broomfield, Colo.) were not far behind with a 3.95 and 3.93 mark respectively.

Carson-Newman is slated to begin its season on Sept. 3 against UNC Pembroke at 3 p.m. to open a quadruple header of action in the USC Aiken Tournament.
