Female Performance of the Year

Julia Wheeler (Volleyball at Union)

In a five-set loss at Union on Sept. 18, the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native finished with 25 kills hitting .240 adding 13 digs. It was the third time in the last decade that an Eagle produced 25-plus smashes and first since Molly Locke on Nov. 20, 2015 had 25 against Anderson, a span of 153 matches and 2,153 days prior.

Julia Wheeler (Volleyball v. Mars Hill)

Against Mars Hill on Oct. 12, Wheeler produced 27 kills on a .219 clip with 15 digs and two block assists. The outside hitter reset her career high joining Molly Locke as the only players with two, 25-kill nights in the same season. The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native tied Locke for the second-most kills in a match since 2004 as Locke also had 27 against Quincy on Sept. 4. Carly Mozgai holds the program record for kills in a match with 29 in five sets on Nov. 12, 2010 against Catawba.

Julia Wheeler (Volleyball v. Newberry)

At Newberry on Oct. 15, the outside hitter powered 26 kills on a .333 hitting clip for the third contest of the year with at least 25 smashes, the most by an Eagle in a single season since at least 2004, and the second in a row. The junior added 14 digs and a pair of blocks.

Abbey Hildenbrand (Volleyball v, LMU)

In her seventh game with the program on Sept. 14 against Lincoln Memorial, the senior setter came within a kill of becoming the first C-N player to record a triple-double in nearly two decades. Hildenbrand finished the night with 41 assists, 11 digs and nine kills chipping in three total blocks to guide the Orange and Blue to a five-set win over the Railsplitters.

Abbey Hildenbrand (Volleyball v. Mars Hill)

In a five-set match against the Lions on Oct. 12, Hildenbrand put up an eye-popping and career-high 61 assists, 15 digs and six kills. No C-N setter has had more than 50 helpers since 2017 as the senior is the first Eagle with 60-plus assists since Anna Patton recorded 61 versus Augusta on Oct. 14, 2016, 140 games and 1,848 days prior. Carson-Newman racked up 78 kills hitting .215 as a team producing 23 more blasts than Mars Hill. Since 2008, the start of 25-point scoring, the Eagles have never had more than that number with the prior high being 74 against Catawba on Oct. 12, 2012. • Going back as far as 2004, there is only one other match with more kills when the team had 81 at Catawba on Oct. 21, 2005 during the 30-point scoring era. On Sept. 25, 2007 at Brevard the team also had 78 kills against Brevard in four frames during the 30-point period. • The Eagles had not posted 70-plus kills in a match since Nov. 20, 2015, a span of 160 matches and 2,169 days, when they had 73 against Anderson at Holt Fieldhouse.

Taylor Keeran (Volleyball v. UVA Wise)

As the Eagles swept UVA Wise on Sept. 25, Keeran posted an .800 hitting margin (8- 0-10). It was the first time since Carly Swisher hit .857 (12-0-14) against Johnson C. Smith 292 matches and 3,665 days prior on Oct. 7, 2011 that a C-N player had been that efficient in a match. As a team, C-N posted a .440 margin (40-7-75), the highest percentage since Oct. 12, 2013 when the Eagles hit .440 (48-8-91) in a three-set win at Brevard.

Lindsey Taylor (Basketball at Tusculum)

Lindsey Taylor racked up her first double-double of the season in Carson-Newman's largest win at Tusculum since Jan. 26, 1999. She produced the eighth double-double of her career finishing with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds going 9-for-14 from the field and making eight of 14 at the free-throw line. The Maryville, Tenn. native added two steals in 23 minutes on the hardwood.

Lindsey Taylor (Basketball at Wise)

Despite being suspended for the first half at UVA Wise on Dec. 8, Taylor posted a season-high 27 points. The junior did not come off of the floor in the second half scoring 27 of the team's 47 points after halftime. The Maryville, Tenn. native  went 12-for-14 from the field grabbing eight rebounds.

Ana Carla Resende (Tennis at ITA Cup)

Resende was one of the top 16 participants invited to Rome for the 2021 ITA Cup. Once in action, the senior defeated opponents from Dallas Baptist and the University of Indianapolis to make her way and claim a spot in the ITA Cup semifinals. In the semifinals, Resende would go up against national #1 and one of the best women's singles players in DII, Barry's Deniz Khazan. Khazan lived up to the hype and came out strong to take home the semifinals victory over Resende. However, her outing from Rome boasted Resende's resume and was able to lend her a spot in ITA national top-10 for the first time in her career.

Sydnee Duncan (Soccer v. Coker)

Sydnee Duncan collected the first individual hat trick by an Eagle since October 2018 with her three-goal effort against the Coker Cobras. The freshman got her day started with a goal in the 18th minute off a cross into the box from Kristina Markfort and Carina Wust. Then, in the 23rd minute, Duncan was not done as she added her seventh goal of the season to complete the brace off an assist from Jente Kuper. Duncan capped off the hat trick in the 54th minute as she found another pass into the box before making it 4-0 in favor of C-N. As she compiled the hat trick, Duncan became the first Eagles athlete to collect six points in a match since September 2018.
