Three Eagles in Top Four after opening round at Rendleman

SALISBURY, N.C. – Carson-Newman senior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) is one of three Eagles in the top four after 18 holes at the 2012 Richard Rendleman Invitational played at the Salibury Country Club on Monday.

Ashby fired an opening round one-under 70 and is in a three-way tie for second place halfway through the tournament. He is a stroke off the pace set by Queens' Alex Weare, who shot a 69. Ashby fired matching 35s on each side.

Junior Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) and sophomore Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Ontario, Can.) are tied for fourth. They are two of seven golfers knotted in fourth after shooting an even-par 71 in Monday's round.

As a team, the Eagles are tied for third, five strokes off the pace set by leader UNC Pembroke at 291 (+7).  

Lincoln Memorial is second after a 295, one stroke ahead of the Eagles.

C-N is tied with Pfeiffer University at 296 (+10).

The Eagles counted an 84 (+13) from senior Alex Coughlin (Jefferson City, Tenn.), while Jordan Patrick (Abingdon, Va.) finished with an 87. Both shot 42 on the front nine.

The final round is Tuesday at the Salisbury Country Club.
