Hunneke earns second straight top five finish at Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – Despite two under par final rounds from Hayden Hunneke and Jake Mynatt, No. 20 Carson-Newman finished in a tie for sixth place at the Hurricane Invitational.

No. 20 Carson-Newman put together a team-score of 292 in the final round. The Eagles fell three spots from the second to final round, to finish in a tie for sixth. The other teams that finsiehd tied with C-N were No. 12 Clayton State, No. 14 Tampa University and Flagler College.

"Poor and disappointing finish today,' Head Coach Randy Wylie said. "We've got a long way to go to be a good team in the postseason. I am pleased with great final rounds and tournaments from Jake and Hayden."

Hayden Hunneke (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tied for C-N's best score in the final round with a 2-under 70. The graduate student's final round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 13th hole. He also made three birdies in the round. Hunneke finished in a tie for 4th place overall. It's his second straight top five finish to begin the spring season.

Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) got off to a great start in his final round. He birdied three of his first eight holes and shot a 2-under 34 on the front nine. The graduate student made a pair of birdies and bogeys on the back nine to tie Hunneke with a 2-under 70 in the final round. Mynatt finshes in a tie for sixth, his third straight top ten finish.

Luke Stock (Oxted, England) birdied three of the four par fives, to card a 2-over 74 in the final round. He also made two bogeys and two double bogeys in the final round. Stock finished in a tie for 28th, his best finish this spring season.

Antonio Farinella (Knoxville, Tenn.) completed his first tournament with C-N by finishing with a 5-over round of 77. The junior made birdies on back-to-back holes, number 17 and 18. He also compiled 10 pars in the final round. Farinella finishes his first tournament tied for 49th.

Aidan Powter (Sydney, Australia) made 12 pars in his final round, carding a 5-over 77. His lone birdie in the round came on the 6th hole, a 155-yard par three.

Elliot MacGregor (Shepperton, Middlesex) made five bogeys and four birdies in the final round to finish the tournament strong with a 1-over 73. The sophomore made nine pars in the final round.

C-N tied for the fourth best average on the par fours this week. The Eagles made 160 pars, 49 birdies and one eagle in the tournament. 

The Eagles return to the course on March 12-14 for the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate played at Sevierville Golf Club, in Sevierville, Tennessee.
