Hunneke paces C-N on shortened Day 1 at Tennessee River Rumble

Day 1 Results

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman used a strong day 1 performance from Hayden Hunneke to sit in third place after a shortened opening day at the Tennessee River Rumble in Lenoir City, Tennessee.

"Very happy with the way we played to start the tournament," Carson-Newman head coach Randy Wylie said. "Hayden Hunneke played very well. The finish of round two, which will be in the morning, will be important and then we will need a strong showing in the final round."

After the opening round, C-N was in second place after a 281 opening round team score. The Eagles trailed first place No. 5 North Georgia by just three strokes. Unofficially, C-N will head into the final day in third place.

Hayden Hunneke (Chattanooga, Tenn.) continued his stellar play this season into today's opening round. The graduate student made more birdies (7) than pars (6) in the opening round to score a 6-under 66. His impressive opening round was highlighted by an eagle on the 12th hole. The round of 66 is his lowest this season and ties for the best round from a C-N golfer this season. Hunneke picked up where he left off in round one, making four birdies through 16 holes in round two. He enters the final 20 holes of the tournament in a tie for third place.

Luke Stock (Oxted, England) continued his opening round success this spring, carding a 3-under 69, C-N's second-best effort in the opening round. He has now scored under in every opening round of the spring season. The junior was sharp, making four birdies to just one bogey in the round. Three of those four birdies came on the front nine. Stock has continued his consistent play into round two, by making a pair of birdies to just one bogey. He is 1-under with two holes left in the second round and is tied for seventh.

Elliot MacGregor (Shepperton, Middlesex) used a strong front nine to score a 1-over 73 in round one. He went 1-under on the front nine, thanks to birdies on both par 5s, holes 3 and 5. MacGregor started his second round by going 1-under on his first eight holes. To conclude the day, he finished four bogeys and one double bogey and is 5-over with two holes left in the middle round.

Tying MacGregor in the opening round was Antonio Farinella (Knoxville, Tenn.). The senior also played a strong front nine, going 2-under with three birdies. Those birdies came during a four-hole stretch (5-8).

Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) made eight pars and one birdie on the back nine, to help score a 2-over 74 in the opening round. Both of his opening round birdies came on the par 5s, holes 3 and 12. Mynatt added three birdies to his tally in round two and is two-over par with seven holes left in the middle round.
