DAVIE, Fla. – After the first day of the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, No. 20 Carson-Newman currently sits in a tie for 12th place.

"We had a mediocre team round, despite good starts from Luke Stock and Hayden Hunneke," Carson-Newman head coach Randy Wylie said. "We can certaintly play much better and will need to the next two days."

Carson-Newman is tied with fellow South Atlantic Conference school Limestone with a 285 team score in the opening round. The current placement is tied for the best among SAC schools after day one. C-N is just seven shots from fifth place. Shorter leads after an opening round 272.

An opening round of 2-under 69 from Luke Stock (Oxted, England) has him in the top twelve after day 1. Stock made birdies on holes 1 and 8 to score a 1-under 35 on the opening nine. He made two more birdies on holes 12 and 15 to help him secure the under-par finish. Stock recorded 12 pars in the first round.

Recording C-N's other under par round was Hayden Hunneke (Chattanooga, Tenn.) The graduate student started hot, making birdies on his third and fourth holes of the day. After making three bogeys on his next eight holes, Hunneke responded by finishing the final six holes of his day at 2-under par, to card a 1-under 70. He is tied for 25th.

Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for a team-best four birdies in the opening round but was plagued by five bogeys in the round. Mynatt went 2-under par on the opening nine, before making four bogeys on the back nine, including two straight to finish the day and give him a 1-over 72 team score. Two of his four birdies came on the par 5s.

Antonio Farinella (Knoxville, Tenn.) was C-N's fourth best score in the opening round, a 3-over 74. The senior made nine straight pars to start his day and score an even par 36 on the opening nine. Farinella made birdie on both par 3s on the back nine but was plagued by a pair of double bogeys recorded on the second nine. His 2-under effort on the par 3s was tied for the best on day one.

Front nine struggles hurt Elliot MacGregor (Shepperton, Middlesex) in the first round. After making par on his first five holes of the day, the sophomore finished the front nine with two bogeys and two bogeys. MacGregor responded well on the back nine by recording his first birdie of the round on the par 4 10th hole. His second and final birdie of the round came on the par 5 15th.
