Eagles begin fall season at Cougar Invitational

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- No. 11 Carson-Newman begins its fall season at the Cougar Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Columbia, Ga.

C-N competed in the Cougar Invitational last season and finished tied for 5th.

The Eagles will play 54 holes at Green Island Country Club. 36 holes will be played on day 1 (Monday) followed by 18 on the final day (Tuesday)

Green Island Country Club is a par 70 that ranges 6,512 yards.

Competing for C-N are two main returning golfers from 2021. Graduate student Jake Mynatt returns for a 5th season. He finished with a 72.4 scoring average in 29 total rounds last season. 

The Eagles also return SAC freshman of the year Elliot MacGregor. He competed in 17 rounds last year with a 73.6 scoring average. His best performance came in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, when he went -9 and finished as the top individual. 

The other three golfers competing for C-N are transfers. Graduate student Hayden Hunneke comes to C-N from Chattanooga. He earned his first Tennessee Golf Association win at the 2022 Men's Match Play Championship.

Junior Aidan Powter and Luke Stock make their way to C-N after spending 2021 with Ranger College. Powter is from Sydney, Austrailia. His lowest round in college is a 67. Stock joins the Eagles from Oxted, England. His low round in college is 66.

Competing as an individual for the Eagles is freshman Ben Johnston. He attended high school at Christian Academy of Knoxville. He was a four-time state team champion. His senior year, his stroke average was 74.

The Cougar Invitational is made up of eight teams, three of which are South Atlantic Conference schools. C-N, Coker and Anderson.
