Eagles Tennis announces 2021 spring season slate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – A new season of men's and women's tennis is just around the corner for Carson-Newman as head coach Jim Frederick gears up his squad's season opener on Feb. 5 against Union (Ky.).

"I'm excited about the spring season getting underway soon," Frederick said. "I know I said at the start of the fall season how different both the men's and women's teams are compared to last year and I think that stands true. I'm excited to see how the teams go out and perform as well as to see if we can replicate how we finished off last season with another appearance in the SAC Tournament."

Three of C-N's first four matches against Union (Ky.), North Georgia, and Lees-McRae will be played at the Knoxville Racquet Club. The lone match not taking place at the Knoxville Racquet Club for C-N to start the season will be a meeting with Young Harris from Lincoln Memorial on Feb. 11. From there, the Eagles turn their attention to their first road trip of the spring to Sewanee: University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. on Feb. 15 (men) and 17 (women).

Following the road trip, Carson-Newman women's tennis will play host to Tennessee Martin at the Cedar Bluff Racquet Club in Knoxville, Tenn. on Feb. 19. Then, both Carson-Newman men's and women's tennis programs will head back to the Knoxville Racquet Club for a full-day of action against Belmont Abbey and Lee on Feb. 26.

South Atlantic Conference plays begins with a pair of home matches from the Charles A. "Buddy" Catlett Tennis Complex on March 5 against Limestone and March 8 against Coker. Then, the men's team will head to Chattanooga for a battle with the Mocs of UT-Chattanooga on March 11.

The first SAC road trip for both men's and women's teams come in mid-March as Carson-Newman hits the road to face Newberry on March 16 before heading up to Wise, Va. to face the UVA-Wise Cavaliers on March 19. After returning home, the Eagles host their east Tennessee rival, LMU, on March 22 before going on another two-match road trip to Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill.

One of the toughest swings of the docket for C-N comes in early April as they welcome nationally ranked and SAC powerhouse, Wingate, to Mossy Creek before having another east Tennessee rival, the Tusculum Pioneers, come to town on April 6.

The Eagles then hit the road for possibly their toughest road match of the spring as they head to the Queen City on April 9 to face another nationally ranked opponent and formidable SAC foe, Queens (N.C.).

The last road trip for C-N comes when the Eagles head to the Palmetto State on April 13 to go up against the Anderson Trojans. Senior day is slated for April 16 when the Eagles take on the Indians of Catawba College from the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Not counting home matches at the Knoxville Racquet Club which still see the team travel, the Eagles will rack up approximately 1,541 miles on the road. Stretched across the continental United States, the miles from Mossy Creek would reach all the way to Parachute, Colorado.
