Carson-Newman’s Mendenhall Named SAC Player Of The Week For The Second Time In Three Weeks

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman’s Mandy Mendenhall has been named South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. It is the second time in three weeks that the junior has received league weekly honors.

The Lady Eagles made the most of their one game last week, defeating No. 8 Clayton State by a 65-62 score in Morrow, Ga. With the win, C-N improved to 9-0 on the year, its best start as a NCAA Division II institution, winning five straight games away from Holt Fieldhouse.

Mendenhall led all scorers with 21 points and added four rebounds and three steals, going 7-for-13 from the floor for a .538 field goal percentage. She also hit four of five free throws including two shots down the stretch to give the Lady Eagles a three-point lead with 10 seconds remaining. Mendenhall is averaging 20.7 points per game in three road contests against Peach Belt opponents.

The Kingston Springs, Tenn., native helped spur two key runs by C-N in the victory, scoring seven of 17 points and five of eight points, respectively to put the Lady Eagles on top of last year's Southeast Region Champion.

Mendenhall is averaging 17.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.0 assists on the season and is shooting 49.5 percent (53-for-107) from the field and 94.4 percent (17-for-18) from the charity stripe.

The South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week is selected by the staff of the SAC league office.
