Carson-Newman’s Shari Buford Named Women’s Division II Bulletin Third Team All-America

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Carson-Newman’s Shari Buford has been selected to the Women’s Division II Bulletin All-America Third Team, it was announced Monday. Buford is the first Lady Eagle All-American under ninth-year Head Coach Dean Walsh.

"We’re proud of her that’s the best thing that we can say," said Walsh. "She’s worked hard and earned it and she’s gained the respect of her peers. She caps off a tremendous career with this award."

The Hampton, Ga., native was also chosen as an Honorable Mention All-America by the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association.

Buford was a 2010 Daktronics First-Team All-Southeast Region pick and averaged 12.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season. She also tallied 90 blocks on the year, good for 2.9 per outing.

The Hampton, Ga., native became the first ever player to record 1000 points, 1000 rebounds and 200 blocks for her career at Carson-Newman. Buford was also selected to the 2009-10 All-South Atlantic Conference First Team for her efforts.

The Lady Eagles tallied a 24-7 overall record with an 11-5 mark in SAC play. C-N reached the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight year and the third time in four seasons where it advanced to the round of 32, defeating Lenior-Rhyne, 79-72, in the first round.
