Carson-Newman Reaches Top 10 For First Time In School History

LILBURN, Ga. - The Carson-Newman women’s basketball team has once again rewrote the history books as it is now ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II by the WBCA USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll. The ranking is the highest-ever for the Lady Eagles. C-N was ranked 12th during the 2005-06 season.

“This is a great honor for our program and it speaks to how hard our players and coaching staff have worked this year,” said Head Coach Dean Walsh. “We still have a lot of work to do, and this puts a bigger target on our backs, but it’s still great to be recognized like this.”

Carson-Newman picked up an 88-80 win over Mars Hill Saturday to move to 13-0 on the year with a 3-0 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. The Lady Eagles have played eight of their last nine games away from the friendly confines of Holt Fieldhouse.

C-N is off to its best start since in school history and is one of eight D-II schools that remain undefeated on the year.

Franklin Pierce remains No. 1 this week as the entirety of the top five is unchanged from last week while fellow South Atlantic Conference schools Lenoir-Rhyne and Newberry are each receiving votes.

C-N returns to the court tomorrow when it hosts Wingate in SAC action at 6:00 p.m.

The WBCA USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll is voted on by 30 head coaches from across the nation at NCAA Division II institutions.
