Lady Eagles Add Dye to 2010 Signing Class

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — South Greene senior guard Rechelle Dye has signed to play basketball for the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles in 2010-11, head coach Dean Walsh announced Wednesday.

Dye becomes C-N's third member of the 2010 signing class.

"Rechelle is recognized as one of the top point guards in the state of Tennessee," Walsh said. "We're really pleased to have her because we're losing (point guard) Ashley Kyle to graduation."

"Rechelle can play the No. 1 or No. 2 position in our system. She is obviously a great point guard, but her ability as a shooter makes her a possibility at No. 2. Rechelle has a great court sense and a knowledge of the game, plus her toughness makes her special. Rechelle's a winner and I think she'll make a great college player."

Dye guided South Greene to a 26-7 record and a berth in the semifinals of the Class 2A state tournament this season. She amassed 1,471 points and became the program's all-time leader in assists as a four-year starter for the Lady Rebels. As a senior, Dye averaged 11 points, four assists and three steals per game.

During her career at South Greene, Dye has garnered District Player of the Year, All-Region (four years), All-District (four years), District Tournament MVP, Greenbank Ladies Classic All-Tournament (two years), District Freshman of the Year, All-Greene County (four years), first team All-Northeast Tennessee (three years) and Underclassman of the Year honors.

Dye will join a Lady Eagle squad that went 24-7 in 2009-10 and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region, which was the program's second straight appearance and fourth since 2005.
