Lady Eagles Receive Bid To 2010 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 22 Carson-Newman Lady Eagles have received an at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament, NCAA officials announced Sunday night. C-N will participate in the national tournament for the second straight year and the fourth time since 2005.

Carson-Newman, which earned the fifth seed, (23-6) will face a familiar opponent in the region quarterfinals in fourth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne (21-7). The Bears defeated the Lady Eagles in both regular season matchups this year.

Lander, which was the last team in the region to be undefeated, will serve as the host of the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Bearcats will face the Trojans of Anderson (S.C.)

Rounding out the tournament field are No. 3 Francis Marion, which will play the sixth-seeded Newberry, and second-seeded and defending Southeast Region Champion, Clayton State, which will face off against 2010 Food Lion SAC Tournament Champion Tusculum.

Tusculum, Anderson (S.C.) and Clayton State each received automatic bids to the postseason after winning their respective conference tournaments.

The quarterfinal matchups will take place on Friday, March 12 with the semifinals on Saturday, March 13. The Southeast Region champion will be crowned on Monday, March 15 and will receive a bid to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, which will be in St. Joseph, Mo.

Game times will be announced early in the week. Please visit www.cneagles.com for more information on the upcoming tournament.
