Lady Eagles in sixth place after day one of the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Led by Mary Tunnell (Cordova, Tenn.) and Chelsea Passmore (Knoxville, Tenn.), Carson-Newman's women's golfers finished tied for sixth after the first round of the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate. 

Tunnell and Passmore are tied for 19th with nine over 79s. 

The Eagles are 18 strokes back from first round leaders Newberry and California (Pa.).  Carson-Newman collectively shot 322 for the opening round while the Wolves and Vulcans pulled into the clubhouse with 304s.

Tunnell finished in the top seven for birdies made on day one with two.  Hodge was one of 12 golfers out of 85 to play the courses par fives at even par. 

Golfers will take to the par-70, 5,811-yard course again Tuesday at 8 a.m. for round two.
