SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's golf overcame playing without one of its teammates and cold temperatures to finish in a tie for 8th, heading into the final round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.

The Eagles are in a tie for 8th with the Radford Highlanders. Heading into the final round, C-N trails fifth place by just six strokes, and fourth place by just fourteen shots.

"It takes a lot out of you to play in these conditions," Carson-Newman interim head coach Cathy Duggan said. "A lot of them were tired from yesterday's long round. I think they hung in there and were strong, despite being wore out from yesterday and the temperatures dropping all day, it just kept getting colder and colder. They all did the best they could do today and I know we can achieve lower scores tomorrow."

Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) paced C-N again on day two. The graduate student made four bogeys and one birdie on the front nine. She played a perfect back nine in which she made nine pars. Cummins' moved up nine spots in round two and is in 11th place.

Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) started and finished well on day 2. She began the day making par on eight of her first ten holes. The senior ended her round by chipping in for birdie on the par 3, 6th hole. Her 4-over 75 was C-N's second-best score of the day. She moved up eleven spots and is in a tie for 17th.

Both Cummins and Haughton improved their scores from day one by two strokes.

Hannah Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) made six pars on day two, four of which came on a 5-over 39 back nine. The graduate student totaled ten bogeys in the round.

Caroline Nemes (Orlando, Fla.) put together C-N's third best score of the day, a 10-over 81. The sophomore made birdie on the par 5 14th hole. She totaled eight pars in round two and enters the final round in a tie for 42nd place.

C-N's Ida Peterson (Copenhagen, Denmark) was unable to participate in round two's action, forcing the Eagles to play and count all four scores.

Individually, Ashley Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) made nine pars to finish with a 14-over 85. Her best nine was the front, where she carded a 5-over 42. The junior is seventh amongst those playing as an individual this week.

Carson-Newman has still made the most pars through the first two days of the tournament. The Eagles also rank in the top five in lowest scoring average on the par threes at (3.41). C-N is also tied for the fifth lowest scoring average on the par fives this week.

Tomorrow's final round gets underway at 9 a.m. from Sevierville Golf Club.
