Eagle’s finish in The Top 10 in the Lady Bearcat Invitational
Hilton Head, S.C. - Carson-Newman women’s golf team turned in a top 10 finish in the two-round Lady Bearcat Invitational, Sunday.
The Eagles finished the tournament with a two-day total of 615 (+39). Savannah College of Arts & Design won by 29 strokes after gaining scores of 296 for round one and 287 for round two.
Sophomore Chelsea Passmore (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Eagles after finishing three-over (75) for day one and four-over for day two (76). She finished 11 strokes behind winner T. Caballer Hernani from Lander University with a score of 151.
Sophomore Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) and freshman Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) not only finished in the top three of their team, but also improved their individual scores for the second day with a score of 75 (+3) for each player.
Head Coach Amanda Moore said she was pleased with the overall performance of each of her players and was happy with their results.
“As a team we improved greatly and just had a better overall day for round two,” Moore said.
Junior Mary Tunnell (Cordova, Tenn.) finished tied 41st with a two-day score of 159 (82-77) and Lauren Hodge (Jefferson, City, Tenn.) shot a 164 (81-83) which tied her for 51st.
Individually, Amber Hardy played an even score 86 (+14) for both days, finishing with a two-day total of 172, which tied her for 60th.
“Our short game was a lot better than the last tournament and we should a lot of confidence this week which will help us in future tournaments,” Moore said.
The Eagles placed seventh out of 12 teams.
The Eagles will tee off again October 15 at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury N.C.
