Second round surge has C-N in 4th place

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C – Carson-Newman used a strong second round to move up three places and enter the final round of the Low Tide Intercollegiate in fourth place.

Carson-Newman put together a 602-team score in the first two rounds and is fourth place. The Eagles went from a 305 round one score to a 297 score in the second round. The solid second round moved C-N up three spots to fourth place after day one.

Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) paced C-N in round one. The graduate student started her day strong, going 2-under through her first eleven holes of round one. Three bogeys in her final seven holes pushed her back to an even-par 72 in the opening round. She dropped five strokes in round two, carding a 5-over 77. Her one birdie came on the eleventh hole, a 496-yard par five. She heads into the final round tied for 10th.

Caroline Nemes (Orlando, Fla.) recorded one birdie in her first round, carding a 6-over 78. The sophomore had a stretch in the round in which she made seven straight pars. Her second round was birdie free, but she did make 13 pars, scoring yet another 6-over 78.

Hannah Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) played the par fives 2-under par, joining Nemes with an opening round of 78. She made eight pars in the round. The graduate student built off the solid first round, by finishing four strokes better in round two. She made 14 pars, and one birdie en route to a 2-over 74. Holland is tied for 35th heading into the final round.

Ida Peterson (Copenhagen, Denmark) recovered after four consecutive bogeys early in her opening round. She played her final 14 holes of round one at 1-over par, to card an opening round 5-over 77. The freshman shaved four strokes off her first-round score, scoring a 1-over 73 in the second round. She made four birdies, three of which came on the back nine, in which she shot 1-under. Like Cummins, she also enters the final round tied for 10th. Amongst other players, she finished second in lowest on the pars fours.

Ellie Haughton's (Lincolnshire, England) first round was consisted of five pars, as she scored an 87, which was not included in the team score. Her second-round score was certainly included. The senior made three bogeys and two birdies to finish the day with a 1-over 73.

Carson-Newman tied for the second-best scoring average on the par fours with a 4.29 average.

Heading into tomorrow's final round, C-N is just two strokes back of third place, and nine back of second.
