VIDEO: Simon Duffy Interview
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head women's soccer coach Simon Duffy has unveiled the Eagles' 2022 women's soccer schedule, featuring seven home games and two contests against teams that made last year's Southeast Regional.
Due to a D2 festival year, the season will get under way a week earlier than typical on Aug. 25 in Cleveland, Tenn. against Cedarville.
"When we started planning for this year a couple years ago, we did a double take thinking, are you sure it's Aug. 25," Duffy said. "By the time August is over, between scrimmages and regular season games, we'll have played six times. I think we have some fantastic challenges to start the season. We want to set our team up to play good opposition to challenge us."
The Eagles play in a tournament at Lee to start the year against the Yellowjackets before turning around to play Ohio Dominican Aug. 27. This will be the first meeting between Carson-Newman and Cedarville and the second with ODU. Carson-Newman dropped a 2-1 decision to the Panthers in 2015 before making a run to the regional final against Columbus State.
Carson-Newman opens the doors to McCown Field and Harvey Stadium on Aug. 31 against Young Harris. The Eagles dropped a 2-0 decision to the Mountain Lions last year, snapping a streak of three straight wins over YHC. C-N is 4-2 all-time against YHC.
C-N then cranks open September with a meeting against Nova Southeastern on the third. This will be the first meeting between the programs.
The Eagles travel to Anderson to open SAC play on Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. before starting the home portion of the SAC schedule with a quarterfinal rematch against Wingate on Sept. 17.
Thanks to Queens departure from the conference for Division I, Carson-Newman's October schedule is weird. The Eagles will celebrate senior day Oct. 1 against Newberry in the penultimate home game of the season. The home portion of the schedule concludes on Oct. 12 against Lincoln Memorial.
The Eagles have a one-off non-conference game on Oct. 5 with a trip to Bluefield State.
Carson-Newman has an 11-day break before its regular season finale against Tusculum on the road Oct. 26.
"I think that late break will be a good natural break to get healthy," Duffy said. "It will allow us to refresh and rejuvenate to get ready for postseason while being in a good position within the league and regionally to refocus and push on."
All Carson-Newman home games will be available on the Eagle Sports Network on FloSports.
