Eagles welcome Bulldogs for SAC home opener

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's soccer (2-2-2, 1-1) greets unbeaten Wingate to McCown field on Saturday. 

C-N currently has an eight-game unbeaten streak at home. The last loss at home came to Catawba last year on September 25th. Under Simon Duffy against the SAC at home, The Eagles are 19-4-1. C-N also has an outstanding record of 33-7-5 when playing at home under Duffy. 

The Eagles are coming off a quality road win over Limestone on Wednesday. Junior Carina Wust scored in the 70thminute off a pass from MJ Park to put C-N ahead 1-0. The defense held strong to help secure the first win in South Atlantic Conference action. 

Freshman Maja Bengtsson and Sophomore Nellie Bryneus are tied for the team lead with two goals each. Seven different Eagles have assisted on the team's eight goals. C-N ranks 3rd in the SAC in shots per game with 16.8. 

Freshman goalkeeper Laura Germes has made five starts in goal this season. She has eleven saves and two clean sheets. Her two shutouts are tied for 5th best in the SAC.

Wingate enters Saturday's match with a 5-0-1 record overall and a 1-0-1 in league play. The win in conference play for the Bulldogs came last time out against Emory & Henry. Wingate won 2-0, outshooting the Wasps 39-2. 

The Bulldogs are ranked 4th in the NCAA Southeast Region rankings. Wingate was picked to finish 4th in the SAC, one spot lower than the Eagles.

The attack has been potent for the Bulldogs this season. Sascha Larsen has a team high three goals, while six other Bulldogs have also scored this season. Caroline Peters has a team-high five assists. Peters also leads Wingate in shots and shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Katrine Thisgaard has been stellar in goal, only allowing one goal in six matches this season. She has four clean sheets and has made 11 saves.

Wingate is currently tied for third with four points in the South Atlantic Conference standings, while C-N is close behind in a three-way tie with three points for 5th with Coker and Limestone.

C-N leads the all-time series against Wingate 11-6. The Eagles have owned the Bulldogs as of late, winning eight of the last 10 matchups including two in a row.
