JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - In the first edition of the NCAA's region rankings, Carson-Newman women's soccer finds itself among the teams under consideration to be part of the NCAA tournament.

The region rankings are determined by several metrics. Strength of schedule, in-region record, in-region RPI, in-region strength of schedule, and performance indicator.

The Southeast Region is made up of teams from the South Atlantic Conference, the Peach Belt Conference, and the Conference Carolinas.

The Eagles are one of five South Atlantic Conference teams in the rankings, which for the first week, are listed in alphabetical order instead of rank order. No. 9 Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone and Wingate are the other SAC schools in the Southeast region rankings. Simon Duffy's team went 2-1-1 against those four teams this season.

Carson-Newman's in-region RPI is six. The Eagles strength of schedule in-region is 0.557 which is seventh best. C-N's performance indicator is 17.400.

The other teams listed in the first Southeast region rankings are Columbus State, Flagler, Lander, North Georgia, and UNC Pembroke.

No. 4 Columbus State and UNC Pembroke are both 12-win teams. Flagler is ranked 24th in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.

North Georgia is 8-2-3, while Lander has the least number of wins and most losses among teams under consideration in the region with a 5-4-5 record.

Among teams in the other seven regions, C-N has faced off against Cedarville and Nova Southeastern. The Eagles fell to Cedarville in the season opener 2-0 and tied with Nova Southeastern at home 1-1.

Each Wednesday the NCAA will release region rankings. Only eight teams from the Southeast region will make the NCAA tournament. Five at-large bids and the three tournament champions from the SAC, PeachBelt and Conference Carolinas comprise the field.

C-N finishes its regular season next Wednesday (Oct. 26) on the road against Tusculum. The match is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
