Schecter, Wilson bring home Bojangles’ Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's swimming's Sam Schecter (Knoxville, Tenn.) and volleyball's Jenna Wilson (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Sophomore Sam Schechter (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the 100 Freestyle in Saturday's meet against the University of the Cumberlands. Schechter was an integral part of the Eagles' 130-70 win.

Schechter also was a member of two winning relay teams, the 400 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Schechter picked up his first individual win of the season and his second and third relay wins as he finished first with the 200 IM team against Lenoir-Rhyne.

Wilson has racked up double-digit kills in eight straight matches dating back to mid-October. The senior began her week with 14 kills and a .433 attack percentage against Lincoln Memorial Tuesday night.

She followed with a big weekend setting a new career-high with 21 kills on a .436 attack percentage and 2.5 blocks Friday night against Anderson (S.C.). Wilson capped the week with 11 kills while matching career-highs with three solo blocks and five total blocks against Newberry.

The middle blocker ends the regular season as the blocking champion in the SAC with 1.19 blocks per set, 126 total blocks, 106 block assists and 20 solo blocks. Wilson finishes the year fifth in the league with 3.9 points per set and 3.18 kills per set.

Her .393 attack percentage ranks 11th in the country while her 1.19 blocks per set are good for 17th in Division II and her 126 total blocks are 11th.
