JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman freshmen swimmers Paul Ungur (Baie Mare, Romania) and Courtlyn Fields (Anderson, S.C.) were named the Male and Female Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmers of the Week after their performances last Saturday against Mount Union in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Fields recorded two wins during the meet against the Purple Raiders, while Ungur tallied two first-places finishes along with a second-place spot.

Fields and Ungur are the second and third Eagles to pick up the honor this season as freshman Lexy Raybon (Sarsasota, Fla.) garnered the award on November 11th.

Fields's wins came in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:13.34, which was two seconds off the team's best time this season in the event. She also won the 200 Fly in 2:15.33, which was also just two seconds off the best time in 2014-15. Fields won the 200 Fly by 12 seconds over second-place finisher Mary Grace Arnold (Chattanooga, Tenn.).

"It's a really big honor. I'm really honored coach Paige (McCord) would think highly enough of me," Fields said about the first such award of her career. "I feel like I swam really well this weekend and that I was able to complete my races and score a couple of wins for my team."

Ungur's individual win was in the 200 Back, an event in which he holds the Carson-Newman school record, with a time of 1:51.13. He won the event by 14 seconds over Manny Mendoza (Round Rock, Texas) who finished second. Freshman Davis Vincent (Loganville, Ga.) finished third to finish off the Carson-Newman podium sweep.

He was a member of the 200 Medley Relay team that won the race in 1:37.15 and beat the second-place team by four seconds.

He also picked up a second-place finish in the 100 Fly.

"I was really surprised. I didn't expect to be nominated for this," Ungur said. "Thank you for the all the votes you have given me and it feels amazing."

The Eagles next take to the pool on January 16th in a tri-meet against King and Emory & Henry in Kingsport, Tenn. For the latest information on the C-N swim team, follow on Twitter at @cnathletics and @CNSwim and at cneagles.com.
