Male Athlete of the Year

Colton Lee (Cross Country): Lee's sophomore campaign with the Eagles started with a bang, finishing 2nd at the SAC Preview just milliseconds off of a first place finish at 26:36.91. Lee's run at the SAC Preview earned him runner of the week honors in the SAC. Lee continued to impress at the UNG Invitational, finishing 2nd with a time of 25:18.9. In the following race, Lee won the ASICS Invitational in dominant fashion with a time of 24:47.9. In a stacked field at the Royals XC Challenge, Lee finished 13th at 25-flat. At the SAC Championships, Lee became the first all-conference selection for the Eagles on the men's side with a 9th place finish at 23:25.62.

Major Williams (Football): Carson-Newman's third-leading tackler in 2023, Major Williams did things no other defensive back has done in the history of the football program.  Williams made 53 tackles on the year, including 10 behind the line of scrimmage. He is the first defensive back in the history of the Carson-Newman football program with double-digit tackles for loss in a single season.  He also had two sacks, both against Erskine (Oct. 14) to become the first defensive back with two sacks in a game as well.  The Fort Myers, Fla.-product also had a pick, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, five pass break ups and five quarterback hurries on the year.

Arthur Gluzman (Swimming): Gluzman placed second in the 100-yard freestyle against #1 ranked University of Indianapolis with a finals time of 44.89, an NCAA DII 'B' cut. He grabbed bronze in the 50 free in 20.68 seconds and contributed a leg to the Eagles' second-place finish in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay. At the Emory Fall Invitational, Gluzman swam in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay for a first-place finish along with placing second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free. Gluzman has five first-place finishes on the season so far and 11 top-5 performances.

Jacorey Long (Football):  Long turned in an impressive season up front for Carson-Newman's defensive line.  Long is the first Carson-Newman defensive lineman with a 50-tackle campaign since Montel Presley's All-SAC season in 2019.  Long, Presley and Javaris Neal have the only 50-tackle years by defensive lineman for the football program in the last decade.  Long finished the season with 52 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks.  He also forced four fumbles, sixth most nationally and the third-most for a single-season in school history.  His 8.0 sacks are tied for the 14th-most in a single season in school history.

Mekhi Brown (Football): Brown turned in a stellar freshman campaign that saw him earn conference player of the week honors on two occasions before being named the league's defensive freshman of the year.  He is the seventh Eagle to win the defensive honor and the 13th to be presented with either the defensive or offensive freshman of the year accolade. Brown led Carson-Newman with 71 tackles.  He also tallied 13 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, picked off two passes (one of which he returned for a score), recovered two fumbles and blocked a kick.  He was the first freshman recognized with a weekly honor from the SAC in five years, while also becoming the first player in more than 15 years to go back-to-back as a player of the week for the league for C-N.

Ben Dukes (Soccer): Earned his first career honor from the SAC, by being named to the all-conference third team. Dukes scored his three goals in a four-game stretch in late September. He scored game-winners against Emory & Henry and Newberry. Along with the goals, he also pitched in with two assists. He finished the year starting all 16 games he played in. Dukes was second on the team in shots with 37.

Maxime Wester (Soccer): Wester burst onto the scene as a freshman, making 16 starts and earning All-SAC Third Team honors. He scored his first career goal in the final seconds of the 3-0 win versus Emory & Henry on Sept 20. His second and final goal came as the finishing touches on a 3-1 comeback victory versus Tusculum on Nov 1. Both goals he scored in his freshman season were scored in the final minute of the game. He played in 16 of the 17 games, with 14 starts. Wester managed 17 shots, five on target.
