Men's Tennis Ends Regular Season Victorious
Carson-Newman Men’s Tennis ended the regular season on a high note with a 4-1 defeat of Newberry.
NEWBERRY, S.C. – Carson-Newman Men's Tennis ended the regular season on a high note with a 4-1 defeat of Newberry.
Carson-Newman (10-7, 7-5 South Atlantic Conference) took down Newberry (3-13, 2-9 SAC) 4-1 in its final regular season contest of the season, and now looks ahead to making a run in the SAC Men's Tennis Tournament next week.
Gjorgji Jankulovski took home Food City Player of the Match honors with a 6-0, 6-4 victory on Court No. 3 while Louis Keenan and Leonard Baecker also picked up important singles wins.

No. 1: James Vincent (NBY) vs. Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) 3-6, 5-3, unfinished
No. 2: Louis Keenan (C-N) def. David Negzaoui (NBY) 6-2, 6-1
No. 3: Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) def. Daniel Watson (NBY) 6-0, 6-4
No. 4: Joshua Fritz (NBY) vs. Paul Gayk (C-N) 6-2, 4-6, 2-3, unfinished
No. 5: Senthen Reddy (NBY) def. Matthew Saunders (C-N) 6-4, 6-1
No. 6: Leonard Baecker (C-N) def. Lucas Mruk (NBY) 6-2, 7-6
The Eagles got the match started on the right foot with a victory in doubles quickly clinching on Courts No. 1 and 3 with 6-2 and 6-3 wins, respectively.

The Eagles await their next opponent at the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament. A conference match between Wingate and Limestone to be played on Sunday morning will decide the seedings for the tournament, and the Eagles first round opponent. If the season were to end after Carson-Newman's win over Newberry, it would face Limestone in the first round as the No. 4 seed.
The SAC Men's Tennis Tournament will be held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C., beginning on Wednesday, April 16, at 2 p.m., when all four quarterfinals will be played simultaneously.
