JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Track & Field will divide its athletes this weekend sending a couple to ETSU for the Buccaneer Invitational and the rest of the group to Camel City Elite Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C. for events on Friday and Saturday.
"It's about opportunities at this point with specific races and events," Coach David Needs explained. "Other meets will give someone like Luke Greer a chance to enhance his time. There are some benefits with being in a certain facility too but both places will have great competition."
It marks the first time during the indoor season that the Eagles will have competed on consecutive weekends, after wrapping up an impressive two days in the Finn Pincus Invitational at Roanoke College.
"We're not as big of a fan of it because it cuts training down," Needs mentioned. "We had this planned and for some of them they're a little bit sore but you can't slow down with conference right around the corner. You have to be prepared for the long haul but smart too."
This weekend's meets are the last indoor events for C-N until the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 19.
Due to its inaugural season, this month will mark the first SAC Indoor Championships in the history of the league.
The Carson-Newman men's side currently sits fifth in the latest regional rankings from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association sitting behind conference opponents such as Wingate at No. 4 and Queens at No. 2. Lenoir-Rhyne comes in right behind C-N at No. 6.
On the women's side, the Eagles check in at ninth behind five other SAC schools. Anderson (8), Coker (7), Lenoir-Rhyne (5), Wingate (3) and Queens (2) all claim spots inside the top-10.
