JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Track & Field will gear up for the Catamount Classic this weekend hosted by Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C. at the Catamount Athletic Complex
The meet is schedule to take place over a two-day period with a number of events taking place on Friday before the majority that will take place throughout the day Saturday.
It's the final tune-up for C-N before the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships next week.
On Friday, the men's decathlon will kick off the Catamount Classic at 2:00 PM and wrap up with the women's elite mile at 7:45 PM. Saturday's events are on pace for a 10:00 AM start and will run into the evening.
"It's a relay and throwers emphasis for us this weekend as we are just a week away from the SAC Championships," Coach David Needs said. "The first thing is not to get anybody hurt. Our preparation is just to fine tune some things."
The Catamounts men's side has claimed the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship the past two seasons and three over the last five years.
C-N comes off a week in which they competed in both the Johnson C. Smith Invitational and the High Point VertKlasse Meeting.
Tori Gaul posted a national qualifying mark in the pole vault last week clearing a mark of 3.66 meters. The Salisbury, N.C. native posted a fifth-place finish as she was in competition against Division 1 vaulters, something the Eagles will have an opportunity to do again this week.
Amy Zadroga came in third in the Javelin at the same meet with a distance of 37.48 meters.
"This weekend will give us a lot of good looks at D1 schools," Needs added. "It will push you and let you know what's out there. It's a great opportunity to show other schools how special Carson-Newman is."
