ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman true freshman sprinter Tia Davis has collected her second AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week this season following the announcement by the league this afternoon.
Davis collected the first ever Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award in the inaugural season for the SAC early last month following her performance at the Bast-Cregger Invitational on Dec. 1 & 2 in which she broke two school records in her first ever meet with the Eagles.
The first school record to be broken by Davis was the 60-meter dash in which she completed in 7.98 seconds, topping the previous record which was held by teammate Samantha Gudger who completed the event in 8.08 seconds last season.
The Ootlewah, Tenn. native followed up with another record in the 200-meter dash and claimed a second-place finish with a time of 26.53 seconds.
Davis broke both of her own records at the ETSU Invitational & Knoxville Youth Athletics HS Indoor Classic over the weekend.
The Invitational held many athletes from Division I schools and Olympic talent over the two-day period.
In the 60-meter dash prelims, Davis turned in a time of 7.96 seconds trailing to Western Carolina's Jazmine Gooden (7.62 seconds) in the heat. Davis beat out Catamounts freshman Erin Willard and ETSU's senior sprinter Jazmin Lacy.
The freshman also topped her 200-meter record etching her name in the record book with a time of 26.32 during Friday's prelims.
"Tia continues to improve each meet," Coach David Needs stated. "To be two meets into her career and rewrite the record book is great, but more impressive is that even as a freshman, she has great sense of wanting to improve her skills and get better each practice."
