The second time was the charm for the Eagles as they completed race number two at Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two school records and multiple personal records were set for the Carson-Newman cross country teams as they competed in the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens University late Friday afternoon.

Out of eighteen athletes in the race for the Eagles 12 set all-time personal bests, 4 had seasons bests, and two school records were set by Luke Greer (Northampton, United Kingdom) and Rachel Strayer (Murfreesboro, Tenn.).

The men placed 23rdout of 43 schools. They were 9thout of the teams from the Southeast Region and 7thout of the SAC teams. Greer placed 5thoverall out of 396 runners moving up two spots from two weeks ago. Running the same course, he shaved nearly a minute off his time giving him the school record and a new personal best at a time of 23:57.

"I'm very proud to have run the school record," Greer said. "It's a great accomplishment and hopefully I can beat it again in the coming weeks. It was just a great day all around for the team, I'm very proud of how everybody ran and hopefully we'll bring that forward into conference."

Cameron and Brandon McKinley (Brighton, Tenn.), Rafael Adame, Anthony Jackson (Manchester, Tenn.), and Jared Eddy (Harrison, Tenn.) all had personal bests and Kelvin Ronoh (Kenya) set a seasons best.

"I'm very excited with how the teams performed." Coach Eric Phillips said. "It was very exciting. It's 25 days until the South Atlantic Conference Championships and we're riding a pretty big wave right now with confidence. It's going to be fun."

The women placed 20thout of 45 teams, 9thout of the Southeast Region schools and 5thin the SAC schools. Strayer led the women for the Eagles out of 412 runners, set a personal record and school record as a true freshman with a time of 18:13.

Bekah White (Rockford, Tenn.), Lindsey Williams, Skye McCarter (Sevierville, Tenn.), Rachel Shaver (Talbott, Tenn.) Hannah Pelham (Sevierville, Tenn.) and despite losing a shoe and it only being her fourth run in two months, Amy Davidson (Belfast, Northern Ireland) all had personal bests in the race. Additionally, Priscah Jemeli (Eldoret, Kenya) and Rachel Shaver (Talbott, Tenn.) had seasons best.

"We've still got another hard 14-day cycle ahead of us in training, and when we dial things back in a couple of weeks we're going to feel good and fast. The fact that we feel as heavy and beat up as we do right now and we're still able to go out and run some amazing times it's very exciting and a great sign for what we've got coming up in the next month."

Both teams will hit the courses again on November 3rdfor the SAC Championship in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
