Harritan collects second-team NCBWA All-Region honors

2024 NCBWA All-Region Teams

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball relief pitcher Hunter Harritan was named second-team all-region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday afternoon.

Harritan is recognized for his efforts on the mound for the second time this season, after earning first-team All-SAC honors earlier this month.

The senior reliever becomes the 14th pitcher in program history to earn all-region honors and the first since Matt Bradley, who was also recognized on the second-team in 2022.

Harritan pitched in 19 games this season and went unbeaten with a 3-0 record and recorded a league-high ten saves. His ten saves are fourth-most in a single season in program history. The right-hander pitched 34 innings and had the team's lowest ERA at 2.91. He struck out 39 batters, and averaged more than 10 per nine innings.

Of his 19 appearances, 14 came in league play. Remarkably, Harritan recorded a win or a save in 12 of those 14 conference games. He had a stretch of nine straight games from mid-March to mid-April where he recorded a win or save in all nine of those efforts on the mound. He tied his career high for strikeouts with five in back-to-back games against Emory & Henry and Catawba.

"It was the mentality part for me," Harritan said. "Coach Tingle is really good with developing a pitcher's mentality. With him coming from Toledo, it really brought that advanced mindset. As soon as I got here, the first thing he put in my head is that you have to develop a killer's mentality and you have to really want to win and pitch well for your teammates and not just hope to have success."

The first-team All-SAC reliever made 56 appearances on the mound in his Eagles career, posting a 9-5 record with 14 saves and a 4.55 career earned run average. He struck out 104 batters in 93 career innings.
