WISE, Va. – For the first time since 2009-10, it is the Carson-Newman men's tennis (9-3, 3-0 SAC) claiming fame to nine wins in a spring season. The Eagles were on the road Saturday for a very abnormal meeting with the host UVA Wise Cavaliers (5-9, 0-3 SAC) as they pulled out a clean sweep on the road by a final of 7-0.

With the win, C-N secured their ninth win of the spring, which has not occurred along the banks of Mossy Creek since 2009-10 when the Eagles finished 9-8 overall.

Saturday saw the Eagles gain an early advantage over UVA Wise without any matches actually beginning. As the host program would only see five athletes competing, only two out of three doubles matches would see action while five out of six singles would see true action.

In the number one doubles spot for the second straight match, Ids Waterbolk (Bennekom, Netherlands) and Gjorgji Jankulovski (Macedonia) would get back on the right track as they took home a 6-1 win.

The Eagles would then go on to win at number two doubles as well as the pairing of Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) and Lars Hordijk (Dordrecht, South Holland) continued their winning ways of the week by a final of 6-0. The number three doubles match would not see action as UVA Wise did not place enough athletes for competition.

Singles competition saw the Eagles claim all five matches which took place, as the Cavaliers did not place an athlete for competition in number six singles.

As the lead grew to 2-0 in favor of C-N, it was freshman Marnix Van Dalen (Netherlands) seeing absolute domination in number one singles. The freshman did not drop a single game as he won 6-0, 6-0 and moves to 7-5 overall in singles for the 2022 spring season.

From there, Rintaro Oka would capture another win for the day as he competed in number three singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 as well to move to 7-4 overall in 2022 singles.

The final singles match result which saw two sets came from Lars Hordijk who made it 5-0 for the Eagles as he won 6-0, 6-1 from number five singles. In his first official spring with the team on the courts, Hordijk is 10-2 in singles play.

The final two singles matches on Saturday would be in the format on an eight-game super tiebreak. First, Marc Janse claimed the win at number two singles by a score of 8-1. Janse has continued to be one of the leaders of this year's program as he moves to double digit wins in 2022 with a mark of 10-2 overall.

The margin became 7-0 for C-N as Gjorgji Jankulovski, pulled out another win for his spring season total. With a final score of 8-0, the freshman moves his singles record to 8-4 in 2022.

The only Eagle to not see singles action was Ids Waterbolk who won by forfeit due to the host Cavaliers only suiting out five athletes for Saturday's match.

Carson-Newman returns to the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex for another SAC matchup as their east Tennessee rival, Lincoln Memorial, pays Mossy Creek a Tuesday afternoon visit. Opening serve between the Eagles and Saints is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.
