CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Men's Tennis took its first loss of the season to an extremely tough Lee squad.

Entering Tuesday's game, both Carson-Newman (2-1) and Lee (4-0) entered undefeated in dual meets, including Lee not having lost a point since a rare late October dual against Cumberlands (Tenn.).

The Eagles broke that spell, but the Flames stayed hot in a 6-1 decision over C-N.

Matthew Saunders (Ballyclare, NI, United Kingdom) gave C-N its lone point of the day with a two-set victory in the No. 5 flight.

SINGLES RESULTS

No. 1: Wihan van der Merwe (LEE) def. Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) 7-5, 0-6, 6-2

No. 2: Quinn Groenendijk (LEE) def. Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) 6-3, 6-3

No. 3: Filipe Krohn (LEE) def. Paul Gayk (C-N) 3-6, 6-1, 6-3

No. 4: Jip Langerhuizen (LEE) def. Louis Keenan (C-N) 6-1, 7-5

No. 5: Matthew Saunders (C-N) def. Stefan Mos (LEE) 6-3, 6-4

No. 6: Rytis Razminas (LEE) def. Leonard Baecker (C-N) 6-0, 6-1

The Eagles failed to pick up a victory in doubles, but it is worth noting that the No. 2 C-N pairing of Louis Keenan (St. Helier, Channel Islands) and Saunders had a 5-3 lead before the match was left unfinished with the Flames already clinching the point.
