Eagles look to put a stamp on fall season at Eagle Invitational

Tournament Draws

KNOXVILLE, TN – The Carson-Newman men's tennis team will participate in their final event of the fall season when they host the Eagle Invitational in Knoxville, Tennessee on Oct. 22nd and 23rd.

The tournament will pit the Eagles against Tusculum, Lee, Young Harris, and University of Charleston. The tournament will consist of four separate eight-person draws for both the men and women. Each player will take part in two singles and one doubles match on the first day while participants will play two doubles and one singles match the following day.

Carson-Newman enters this weekend after last competing in the Enchanted Valley Showdown from the campus of Young Harris on October 9 and 10. Over the two-day event, the Eagles posted a 24-3 overall, including a perfect 9-0 in doubles play.

"The boys had an amazing weekend, going 24-3 overall with a mark of 9-0 in doubles and 15-3 in singles," graduate assistant Gabriel Dabdab said. "The scary thing is that it could have been even better."

In doubles, the pair of junior Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) and sophomore Lars Hordijk (Dordrecht, South Holland) played as number one doubles for C-N finished their time in the Peach State with a trio of victories.

In singles, Ids Waterbolk led the way as he won all six singles matches at Young Harris, wrapping up his time with a 7-6, 6-2 victory at number four singles. Moving up a slot, freshman Richard Dulganov was slotted as number five singles against Young Harris. As he has done consistently this fall, Dulganov won in singles action by a result of 6-2, 6-2 victory. The final Eagle to claim victory over Young Harris would be sophomore Lars Hordijk. Despite not playing against Montevallo, Hordijk returned to the courts against Young Harris and won 6-3, 6-3.

The Eagles look to end their fall season on a high note by capitalizing on the skills they've been working on since the team first arrived on campus in August.

"Sky is the limit for them and if they believe in each other, I don't see many teams that are able to stop them," Dabdab said.

Action will begin for the Eagles from Tyson Park in Knoxville both Friday and Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
