JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (1-1) women's basketball team will hit the road for the second straight weekend, participating in the 2012 Lady Saints Tip-Off Classic in Dahlonega, Ga.

The Lady Eagles will first face the host North Georgia Lady Saints on Friday evening at 6 p.m., and will finish out their weekend against the Georgia College Bobcats (0-0) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside Memorial Hall Gymnasium.

"It's going to be an interesting weekend for us," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. "North Georgia is going to be a good squad, they have some Division I transfers, we're going to be tested but it's good to be tested early."

The Lady Eagles are coming off an 85-45 victory over Erksine in the SAC-Confrence Carolinas Challenge last Saturday in Harrogate, Tenn. Junior Shyra Brown (Cleveland, Tenn.) collected Carson-Newman's first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Chante' Markus (Hummelstown, Pa.) led C-N with 15 points.

Through the first two games, Brown leads Carson-Newman by averaging 13 points and eight rebounds per contest. Freshman Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) continues to lead Carson-Newman from beyond the arc, shooting 35 percent from three.

Carson-Newman's first opponent North Georgia returns the 2011-12 Daktronics Division II National Player of the Year and Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year in junior Jaymee Carnes. Last season she led the nation in scoring, averaging 25 points per game. The Lady Saints were picked to finish sixth in the preseason PBC coaches poll.

On Saturday the Lady Eagles will face a Georgia College team that was picked to finish 12th in the Peach Belt. The Bobcats fell in their season opener to West Georgia 75-52 last Saturday.

"We're looking forward to the trip and the weekend," said Mincey. "Hopefully we can go down and get two wins but we'll have to play extremely well for that to happen."

Fans can listen to Friday's game against North Georgia on the Coca-Cola Eagle Sports Network, with coverage beginning with the Farm Bureau Countdown to Tipoff at 5:45 p.m. and the broadcast is also available on www.cneagles.com.
