JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Trailing by three with two minutes to play in the first half, Carson-Newman used a 26-5 run over the next nine minutes to take down Emory & Henry, who cut the score to four with a minute to play, 72-64 Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference action at Holt Fieldhouse.

"All I cared about was getting a win," Carson-Newman coach Mike Mincey said. "I just wanted to get this game over and won because it has been a tough five days for us. I don't think there is any doubt that playing our third game in five days took its toll on us tonight. We didn't shoot the ball well in our own gym which is very unusual. We had some wide open threes that weren't even close."

Carson-Newman (17-10, 12-5) has won 10 consecutive home games marking the eighth time in the history of the program the Lady Eagles have a streak reach double digits in home affairs.

Three Lady Eagles finished in double figures led by 24 points from Braelyn Wykle (Greeneville, Tenn.) as the league's leading scorer added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Skylar Boshears (Lafollette, Tenn.) went 5-for-9 from the field adding 14 points and Campbell Penland (Sevierville, Tenn.) added 13 points and three assists. Keeleigh Rogers (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Harli Smith (Jamestown, Tenn.) each posted double-digit rebounds with 13 and 11 respectively.

The opening 10 minutes featured seven lead changes and a pair of ties with a late layup by Rogers putting the Lady Eagles on top 16-14 after 10 minutes.

Mincey's team scored the first five points of the second period and led 23-16 with 6:34 to go in the half. Emory & Henry used a 16-6 scoring run to go ahead 32-29 with 2:21 to go in the opening half. Carson-Newman scored the final nine points to take a 38-32 lead into the locker room.

Opening up the second half, the Lady Eagles scored 17 of the first 22 to build up an 18-point lead at 55-37 with 3:07 to go in the period. After the Wasps scored nine in a row, the Lady Eagles scored the final five points in the final half minute to go ahead 60-45 after three.

Carson-Newman started the fourth quarter 1-for-9 from the floor as the Wasps scored 10 straight to pull within seven at 62-55 5:08 to go in the game. Mimi Traynham made it a 68-64 game with 1:04 to go on a trifecta before the Lady Eagles made all four foul shots to ice the game.

Four Wasps finished with at least 10 points with Emma Santoro posting a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. Breanna Yarber chipped in 15, Brylee Jones had 11 and Traynham scored 10.
