Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Female Athlete of the Year

From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  These are the fall nominees for Female Athlete of the Year. On Monday, we'll unveil the candidates for Male Athlete of the Year. 

The 10th annual Frosty Awards will take place May 2 and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Julia Wheeler (Volleyball): Becoming the program's second All-American, Julia Wheeler earned the laurels from the AVCA and a second-team nod from the D2CCA. The outside hitter ranked in the top 10 nationally in five categories with her 4.38 kills per set average smashing the single-season school record. The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native took home 14 individual honors during the season.

Abbey Hildenbrand (Volleyball): Earning a first-team All-Region nod from the AVCA, Hildenbrand ranked second on the roster with 15 double-doubles and came within two kills of a triple-double on three occasions. The setter was one of the eight active players in Division II to have at least 3,000 kills and 1,000 digs for her career and racked up over 700 assists during her senior campaign.

Nellie Bryneus (Women's Soccer): The sophomore earned South Atlantic Conference first-team honors, as she tied for the team lead with four goals scored this season. The forward also tied for the team lead with 11 points. 17 of her 34 shots were on target. She scored or assisted on a goal in six games.   

Addie Henry (Women's Soccer). For the fourth time, senior Addie Henry earned an all-conference. The senior was named to the South Atlantic Conference Second Team this season, tying for the team lead in assists with five. The midfielder also scored three goals and finished the season with 11 points. She scored or assisted on a goal in seven of her 17 games played this season. 

Jente Kuper (Women's Soccer): She earned a South Atlantic Conference Second Team All-Conference honor for the fifth consecutive season. She tied for the team lead with four goals scored this season, while only taking six shots. It's the first time in her career she scored multiple goals in a season. 

Maeve Cummins (Women's Golf): The Graduate student was C-N's top golfer this fall. She led the Eagles with a 75.3 scoring average, participating in all 12 rounds. Her low round this season was an even par 72 in the second round of the City with Spirit Classic. Her best finish this fall was at the City with Spirit Classic, finishing 4th.

Katie Smock (XC): Katie Smock capped off the year with All-Region honors after her performance at the 2022 NCAA Southeast D2 Regionals. Smock finished the race with a time of 22:53.4, good enough for 19th place while also shattering her previous personal best by 23 seconds. Two weeks prior, Smock earned All-Conference honors when she placed 19th at the SAC Championship with a time of 23:42.1.

Imke Van Gog (XC): Imke Van Gog earned All-Region honors in her sophomore season with an 11th place finish and a time of 22:31.1 at the NCAA Southeast D2 Regionals. The finish beat her previous personal best in a 6K race by almost a full minute. Two weeks prior, Van Gog earned All-Conference honors at the SAC Championship when she finished 21st with a time of 23:55.7.
