Upset of the Year

MGOLF at Citrus: The Eagles had their best finish of the fall season at the Citrus Intercollegiate. Randy Wylie's crew finished in third place, which marked the eighth consecutive fall season in which the Eagles have finished an event in the top three. At the Citrus Intercollegiate, C-N finished higher than No.2 West Florida, No.17 Tampa, and No.19 Cameron. Graduate student Jake Mynatt led the Eagles, finishing the tournament at 12-under par, good for second place.

MSOC v. Mars Hill: Three different Eagles scored in a 3-2 upset win over #14 Mars Hill. Seniors Tim Vercelli, Nic Carsh and Harry Whitehead each scored first-half goals to lift C-N past the Lions. Senior Willem Kruijk assisted on two of the three goals in the victory. The win marked the second consecutive year in which the Eagles have defeated a ranked team at McCown field. The win also extended C-N's unbeaten streak in September to twelve games and six this season.

Football v. Newberry: Carson-Newman turned in a defensive performance for the ages, limiting the Wolves to 17 yards of offense after halftime en route to collecting a win over a top-10 team and the 650th victory in program history. The Eagles scored the final 24 points in the contest to take a 24-14 decision from the Wolves.  The Eagles chalk up their first win over a top-10 team since beating No. 5 North Alabama 24-21 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA playoffs in 2009 and their 14th since becoming a NCAA Division II school.  Carson-Newman's last win at Burke-Tarr Stadium was also against Newberry.  The Eagles handed then No. 9 Newberry a 49-14 loss on Sept. 29, 2007.

Women's Basketball vs. #8/3 North Georgia: Outsourcing the Nighthawks by 32 in the second half, the Lady Eagles throttled a top-10 team 92-61 on Dec. 3. Ranked third in the media poll, C-N earned a win over the highest ranked team it has played since at least 2008 with the prior top-ranked foe being fifth-ranked Tusculum, 90-87, at Holt on Jan. 17, 2009, a span of 403 games and 5,072 days. Five Lady Eagles finished in double figures with Braelyn Wykle posting 18 points, four assists and two steals.
