YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Carson-Newman (2-3-2) dropped a match to Young Harris (3-5) 2-0 Wednesday afternoon.

"It was a disappointing result," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "I thought we were the better team."

Whitney Thomas put up both points for the Mountain Lions racking up four goals on the season. She took five shots during the match and landed four on net.

Thomas' first goal came 34 minutes into the game from a through ball from Candace Edwards; she beat the keeper and placed the ball in the lower right corner. In the 78^th minute, Thomas received a pass across the top of the box from Erica Lowery and shot the ball into the top netting to put Young Harris up by two.

"We had no creativity in the final third," Moodie said, "and we struggled to score."

Carson-Newman outshot the Mountain Lions 14 to 13. Junior captain Sidnee Edwards (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Eagles in shots having taken 4, one of which was on frame. Freshman center back Megan Peterson (Parrish, Fla.) took two shots and placed both on target.

"It was a tough loss on the road for us," Moodie said. "Now we just need to recover for Saturday."
