JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Right-handed pitcher Ashley Boyd (Chattanooga, Tenn.) will join the Carson-Newman softball team for the 2010 season, head coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield announced Thursday.

Boyd, a transfer from East Tennessee State, will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing the last two seasons with the Lady Bucs.

With ETSU in 2009, Boyd compiled a 2-4 record with a 3.89 earned run average and 20 strikeouts. In 24 appearances as a freshman in 2008, she ranked second on the team in wins (seven), ERA (3.02), complete games (eight), shutouts (two), innings pitched (109) and strikeouts (59).

During her high school career at Dade County in Trenton, Ga., Boyd was selected All-Region and All-State from 2003-06 and was named Best of Preps by the Chattanooga Times Free Press from 2003-06. She also helped lead Dade County to the 2004 Class 2A Georgia state title.

Boyd will join a C-N squad that went 32-17 in 2009, won its ninth South Atlantic Conference tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Division II Softball Southeast Super Regional.
