
No. 25 Lady Eagles Sweep Eckerd, 7-0 and 13-4, Monday On The Road
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The No. 25 Carson-Newman softball team moved to 17-2 on the season as it defeated Eckerd in a doubleheader Monday evening on the road. The Lady Eagles won the first game, 7-0, before defeating the Tritons 13-4 in eight innings in the nightcap.

Up 2-0 in game one, C-N posted five runs in the fourth inning to give itself a 7-0 advantage. Junior Ashley Boyd (Chattanooga, Tenn.) (10-0) picked up the win allowing just three hits in 6.1 innings of work.
The Lady Eagles and Tritons battled to a 1-1 tie after seven innings in game two. The eighth frame was just what Carson-Newman was looking for as it scored 12 runs on eight hits to take a 13-1 lead. Eckerd was only able to get three runs back in the bottom half of the eighth for the final 13-4 score. Boyd (11-0) picked up the win in relief, pitching the last two innings of the contest.
Senior shortstop Jessie Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Boyd each went three for seven on the day and combined for five RBI.
Carson-Newman will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Americus, Ga., to take on the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
