Eagles Wrap Up Season With a Strong Showing at Southeast Regional

OAKWOOD, Ga. – The Carson-Newman cross-country teams wrapped up their season on Saturday at the NCAA DII Southeast Regional, as the women took 9th and the men placed 15th.

Katie Smock and Jenna Pittman led the way for the women, finishing back-to-back at 30th and 31st. The two finished almost simultaneously, with Smock coming in at 22:59.3 and Pittman at 23:00.9.

Peyton Couch came in at 59th at 23:53.0, with McKenna Spaulding and Imke Van Gog shortly following at 61st and 62nd. Spaulding crossed at 23:58.3, with Van Gog finishing less than a second later.

Maggie Hope finished 98th at 25:09.07, and Nicole Griffith rounded out the Eagle finishers in 128th at 27:09.3.

"For us to finish 9th was very pleasing," interim head coach Whit Lee said. "We finished in our little clusters as we've been doing all year long… That's what helped put us in the top ten."

On the men's side, Colten Lee became the first all-region male for the Eagles since 2018, with a 20th-place finish in the 10k at 30:30.6.

Brent Borden became the 2nd Eagle to finish, coming in 78th at 33:03.2. Raymond Brugmans placed two slots later at 80th at 33:04.8.

Cooper Carr came in shortly after, finishing in 110th at 33:55.1. Will Kolb and Trent Lovelace finished in short order at 137th and 144th. Kolb crossed at 34:44.4 and Lovelace at 34:57.5.

To close out the Eagles, Bryson Burkett finished in 153rd at 35:44.3.

With a solid performance on both sides, the Eagles closed their season on a high note against a stout field of competition.
