Orange’s offense packs punch in game one drubbing of Blue

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Mark Allen Bounds's Orange team cranked out 12 hits and scored in six of the seven innings in a 14-3 throttling of Brandon Roberts's Blue team in game one of the Fall World Series Friday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

The Orange club tallied the game's first run as Joe Selitto (Newton, N.J.) plopped a base hit into right-center field and moved to second base on a passed ball. John Sharpe (Franklin, Tenn.) lined a single to right on a 1-2 offering to score Selitto.

A walk and a hit batter opened the top of the second. After showing bunt, Mark Treadway (Friendsville, Tenn.) laced a 2-2 offering into the gap in left-center field to plate a pair. Treadway came around to score on a ground out to second base by Genter to put Bounds's team ahead 4-0.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the second inning, Brett Langhorne (Mechiancsville, Va.) ripped a base hit through the right side of the infield to score Dante George (Milford, Del.). A ground out to third base by Cade Snapp (Seymour, Tenn.) cut the deficit to two for the Blue team at 4-2.

After scoring a run in the fourth, the Orange team exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth to push the advantange to 11-2. Each of the first four men tallied hits capped by an RBI double to the wall in right-center field by Ethan Goforth (Blacksburg, Va.) who scored on a wild pitch a couple tosses later. Back-to-back walks set the stage for Matt Bradley (Talbott, Tenn.). The rookie slashed a ball to left field that one-hopped the wall to plate a pair.

The two teams traded runs in the sixth as the Orange group scored on a sacrifice fly while Langhorne provided an RBI double to left field to get his team back on the board.

Micah Genter (Jasper, Tenn.) notched his first hit of the day, an RBI double to right field and Sharpe scored Genter with a base knock to right field to close the scoring at 14-3.

11 of the 12 players to get an at-bat for Bounds reached base and scored a run in the game as Sharpe led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate and three runs batted in. Bradley also drove in a trio of runs.

On the mound Austin Conner (Sevierville, Tenn.) picked up the win in one scoreless inning of relief while Luke Friedman (Gilbert, Ariz.) tossed the final three innings striking out four and allowing a run to pick up the save.

Langhorne's led the Blue team's day the plate by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Hal Bishop (Knoxville, Tenn.) reached base three times going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Overall the Blue team stranded nine men on bases including the bases loaded in each the first and second inning.

Roberts gives the ball to East Tennessee State transfer Dillon Cate (Sevierville, Tenn.) in game two against Bounds's choice of Gardner. The Eagle Sports Network will have the coverage on cneagles.com/live with first pitch scheduled for noon in the first of two seven-inning games Saturday.
