Dandridge, Tenn. – Game five of the Orange and Blue Fall World Series ended with the Orange squad picking up a 8-3 victory over the Blue squad on Tuesday evening at Patriot Park.
The Orange squad won four out of the five games against Blue team in this year's edition of the fall classic. The final game of the series was played at Jefferson County high school.
The Blue team struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Wilfredo Acevedo reached on an infield single to second base to lead-off the inning. Two batters later Acevedo was standing on third when Orange catcher Ethan Goforth saw the ball go between his legs and roll to the backstop. Acevedo sprinted home giving the Blue team a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Hunter Sales stepped up to the plate with one out in the bottom of the second inning and ripped the first pitch he saw over the right center field fence for a homerun. The solo shot tied the game up at 1-1.
Cal Smith hit an infield single and then took second while the blue squad was not paying attention. Selitto reached on an infield single to short, moving Smith over to third base. The Orange squad then pulled off a double steal Selitto was caught in a run-down but Smith was able to score from third base giving the Orange a 2-1 advantage that they would not relinquish.
Colby Morgan drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth inning, two batters later Sales drives in his second-RBI of the contest with a single to right field giving the Orange team a 3-1 lead. Smith doubled to left and drove in Sale's from first. Smith scored on a wild pitch giving the Orange team a 5-1 advantage.
Morgan leadoff the top of the fifth with a triple that bounced off the top of the centerfield wall. Goforth doubled on the next pitch giving the Orange team a 6-1 lead. Two batters later Quintana scored on an errant pickoff attempted by Harley Thompson increasing the Orange lead to seven runs.
Palmer Taylor reached on error by Sales to begin the bottom of the sixth inning. One batter later Hal Bishop crushed a two-run homerun to left field cutting the Orange lead down to a four run deficit.
Goforth reached on an error by Langhorne in the top of the seventh inning. On the next pitch Morgan singled to right to score the eighth and final run of the contest.
Matt Bradley started the game for the Orange squad and threw three complete innings. The freshman only allowed one run while giving up three hits.
The Orange team seals four of the five games in the series and takes the overall runs scored crown for the series. Goforth and Selitto were tabbed the Most Valuable Players by the coaching staff.
