Victory scoops up SAC Elite 20 award

KODAK, Tenn. – Junior pitcher Ryan Victory was named the South Atlantic Conference's Elite 20 award winner Friday evening at the 2018 Baseball Championships being held at Smokies Stadium. The plaudit is awarded by the league for outstanding work not only in the field of competition, but also in the classroom around the community.

It is modeled after the NCAA's Elite 90 award as the league offers the award to the top cumulative GPA on a minimum of 48 credit hours to an individual competing in the league's 20 championships.

This season is the second year that the award has been handed out as Victory joins 2017 winner and former Eagle first baseman Paul Kirby as winners of the award.

Victory sports a perfect 4.0 grade-point average with a major in business. Since arriving on Carson-Newman's campus in the fall of 2015, the Goodlettsville, Tenn. native has been an Eagle Scholar every semester thus far into her C-N career. A student-athlete who meets or surpasses a GPA of 3.25 is recognized by the University as an Eagle Scholar and is given a patch to wear on their uniform during competition.

On the mound, the right-hander has appeared in 50 games over his career collecting seven wins and three saves with 53 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings pitched. The Brentwood, Tenn. native has picked up a win on the mound in each of his last two outings against Trevecca Nazerene and Bluefield State. He tallied a save at Lincoln Memorial on March 25 of this season.

The longest outing of his three-year career came on Feb. 21, 2017 when he went five innings against Tusculum allowing one run on four hits. It is one of the 19 times that he has worked multiple innings including in six of his last seven.

Victory and the Eagles take on eighth-seeded Anderson in the SAC Tournament starting at 3:45 p.m. with coverage on the Eagle Sports Network on cneagles.com/live with video and audio streams.
