Ish Sanders postgame interview
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Coming in at number three on the Carson-Newman Athletics New Year's Countdown is Ish Sanders cementing himself in the C-N basketball record books.
The Carson-Newman guard took over the top of the table as the Eagles' all-time leading scorer of the Division II-era (1992-present) with a 23-point effort in C-N's 98-70 nonconference home win over Lees-McRae.
Sanders passed All-American Kyle Gribble (1999-2003) with a deep, pull-up three from the left wing to officially pass Gribble. He's now the seventh player all-time with more than 1,500 points in his career with 1,518. Sanders moves into seventh place on the all-time scoring list. Raymond Lettsome (1983-85) sits in sixth place with 1,735 points.
"He has meant so much to this program," C-N head coach Chuck Benson said following the game with Lees-McRrae. "We're thankful that he was able to attain that record and it means that much more knowing the caliber of player he passed in Kyle Gribble."
The Carson-Newman Athletics New Year's Countdown continues Monday with moment two. Moment's one and two were a vote away from being unanimous selections at their respective spots on our countdown.
