Davis garners SAC player of the week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman forward Antoine Davis has been named South Atlantic Conference men's basketball player of the week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. 

The honor is the third for Davis in his career.  Davis has been herculean of late for the Eagles, averaging 26 points, 8.5 boards and 6 assists in Carson-Newman's wins over Queens and Anderson.

Davis dropped 29 on the Trojans before he fired in a quiet 23 to go along with nine boards and six assists against the Royals. 

The senior from Rustburg, Va. had a 2.5:1 assist to turnover ratio for the week. 

Davis is third in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring with 20.4 points per game.  He has scored more than 20 points on 15 occasions this season and has six games with 25 points or more this year. 

The reigning South Atlantic Conference player of the year has 16 games with five or more rebounds and six games with five or more assists. The Eagles are unbeaten this year when he drops five or more dimes in a game.

Davis is Carson-Newman's second SAC Player of the Week pic this year. Ish Sanders won the honor two weeks ago.    

The Eagles hit the road Wednesday for a matchup with the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters.  LMU enters the contest ranked 14th in the nation.

The game will feature five SAC players of the week in the Eagles' Sanders and Davis and the Railsplitters' Vinny Bailey, Luquan Choice and Chance Jones.
