ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman guard Ish Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) has garnered South Atlantic Conference men's basketball player of the week honors for the first time in his senior campaign and the fifth time in his career, the league office announced Monday morning.
Sanders averaged 27.5 points and five boards for the Eagles to help C-N knock off no. 7 Lincoln Memorial 79-77 and Lenoir-Rhyne 81-76.
The accolade is Sanders first since winning it on Feb. 25 of 2013.
In the win over LMU, Sanders touted 25 points before turning around to drop 30 on L-R. Sanders was also a perfect 13-of-13 from the charity stripe in the win. The free throws matched a career high for him.
He has scored 25 or more on eight occasions this season and has broken the 30-point barrier twice. The Eagles are unbeaten this year under both scenarios.
C-N hits the road Wednesday for a contest at Brevard. Tipoff with the Tornados is set for 8 p.m. Pregame coverage gets underway at 7:45 on the Eagles Sports Network on 106.3 ESPN Radio The Zone (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
Sanders has averaged 18.6 points lifetime against the Tornados and had a 29-point game against them earlier this season.
He's canned 46 percent of his threes all-time against Brevard.
